Hadith of “The Chief [Supplication] of Seeking Forgiveness”
On the authority of Shadad ibn Aus, may Allah be pleased with him; he said: “The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “the chief of seeking forgiveness is that you say:
O Allah! You are my Lord! There is no deity but You. You created me, and I am Your servant, and I am [faithfully] upon Your covenant and Your promise, as much as I can. I seek refuge with You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge unto You Your bounty upon me, and I confess to You my sins. So, forgive me, for certainly none forgive sins except You.”
He, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “And, whosoever says it in the day, whilst certain of it, and perishes during his day before entering into evening, then, he is of the people of The Garden. And whosoever says it in the evening, whilst he is certain of it, and perishes before entering into the morning, then, he is of the people of The Garden.”” [Narrated by: Imam al- Bukhārī, and as well as al-Nasā'ī]
The Chief [Supplication] of Seeking Forgiveness:
Translation:
Thus, forgive me, for certainly none forgive sins except You.
